Cob
Cob
Cob is an itinerant huntsman who operates in the wilderness surrounding Kendall Keep. He is one of the most knowledgeable people regarding the dangers lurking in the Borderlands.
Description
A lean, weathered man of perhaps forty years, with the deep tan of someone who spends most of his life outdoors. He has a thin scar running from his left temple down to his jaw—an old wound, long healed. His eyes have the sharp, assessing quality of a man accustomed to watching for predators.
He wears practical clothing: a worn leather jerkin, mud-stained boots, and carries a hunting knife at his belt. His shortbow and quiver are never far from reach.
Role
Cob hunts the local woods—deer mostly, sometimes wolves when they grow bold, and "other things when the coin's right." He knows the wilderness trails better than anyone and has witnessed firsthand the growing evil in the region.

What Cob Knows
Recent Sightings
- He has seen gnolls in the woods three times in the past month—creatures not seen in the area for a decade
- The gnolls were not raiding; they were fleeing south, as if something terrified them
- The Goblinwater has run red with blood twice in recent weeks
The Murdered Travellers
A fortnight past, Cob discovered a group of murdered travellers on the road:
- The bodies were ritually arranged in a circle, arms folded across their chests, all facing inward
- Symbols were carved into the trees and into the flesh of the victims
- The woman who appeared to be their leader was pinned to a tree with a spear through her chest, positioned like an altar at the centre of the circle
The Caves of Chaos
- Located half a day's walk into the hills
- A dozen or more cave mouths cut into a ravine
- Whatever is up there now has the monsters scared
Services
- Wilderness Guide: 5 gp per day (keeps any pelts he takes)
Party Interactions
The party spoke with Cob at The One-Eyed Cat. He provided extensive details about the dangers in the region and gave the party a hand-drawn map of the wilderness trails.
